The Holstee Manifesto

I’ve noticed this image floating around “the internets” lately and I cannot agree with it more! If you asked me when I was six what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d tell you “a wedding planner”. If you asked me on December 21, 2008 what I’d be on February 2, 2012, I’m pretty sure the answer would be “a mid-level marketing executive”.

Today is Groundhog Day, and thinking back to the movie of the same name reminds me that unlike Bill Murray, who relived Groundhog Day over and over, you and I only live one life, so why not spend it doing what we love? Yes, I’m only living my dream because fate (aka “a financial crisis”) stepped in and dealt me a consider a serious blow. But, it was also an opportunity – a chance to try what I’d always wanted to do, but didn’t think was a realistic career path. Sure, maybe this advice is not entirely realistic for everyone, but take a moment and think it through…
